Graphic card no display

The PC powers on but the monitor stays black, or the card isn't detected at all. This is the fault we see most, and it is usually repairable.

Check these first

  • Try another cable and another port on the card (HDMI and DisplayPort).
  • Make sure every PCIe power connector is plugged in fully.
  • If you can, test the card in another PC, or another card in your PC.
  • If the motherboard has a display output, check whether the PC boots on it.

What usually causes it

  • A shorted component on the power stage (VRM) — often after a power spike or heavy use.
  • A failed memory chip or a problem around the GPU core.
  • Corrupted firmware (VBIOS), sometimes after a failed flash.
  • A damaged PCIe connector or burnt connector pins.

What we do

We measure the power rails on the board to find where the fault is, then quote you for that specific repair. If the card can't be repaired, we tell you why and you don't pay for the repair.

Questions

The fans spin but there's no picture — is it the same fault?

Often, yes. Spinning fans only mean the card is getting some power. See our page on fans spinning with no display.

Can a card that is not detected be repaired?

In many cases. 'Not detected' is a symptom with several possible causes on the board — we find which one before quoting.

Send us the card model and what it's doing.

A photo of the label on the back of the card and a short description of the fault is enough to start. Prices depend on the fault, so we don't list them here — we diagnose first for free, quote you, and only repair if you say yes.
